There’s something you have to love about that point in the season when the weather finally changes and you can officially put away the heavy layers.
I’m here to tell you that it’s a blessing, and it saves more than a few coins on laundry lol.
For this look, I decided a few things before I got dressed.
-This outfit needed to be simple – straight to the point
-Eye-catching
-Functional
The distressed look is a favorite of mine. You can definitely plan on seeing more of it. Even though the concept of this look may be popular, the reality is that there still seems to be a little controversy around it. I literally had a friend tell me I look homeless in my jeans.
So the question remains…is there such a thing as too distressed?
How much distress can a pair of jeans take before it’s just stressful?
If I had my say, I’d tell you that the answer is that there is no legal limit on the amount of distress of a clothing item. Here’s what it’s all about, “The Look”, and “The Look” is often a result of your confidence.
You literally move differently when you feel good and you know you are dripping everywhere. (No Ketchup, Just Sauce… Word to Big Shaq)
That’s my two cents on the distressing issue. Now let’s focus on the shirt and the shoes.
The shirt is from H&M, it is lightweight and very versatile. Because of its versatility, I have personally worn it out’n’about the city, to work, and to the club. In every situation I was complimented, except once- I’ll just say “Beetlejuice x3”. I have to get better friends SMH lol. Overall, the stripes are bold and they serve as a statement to all you pass that you are a risk-taker. You literally took the footlocker store manager shirt and made it a fashion statement. What says fashion more than taking something meant to be purely utilitarian/functional and making it fashionable? Shout out to all the referees that are popping on the fields and courts!
Finally, the shoes, there has been a resurgence of vans (full stop). Some would argue that skateboarding culture is back, but I’m here on the fringe saying they’re really just select items- which mostly fall into the shoe/sneaker category and t-shirts. I’m so good on the kickflips and ollies, I assure you!
The shoe itself is a classic, and it’s one that you see everywhere these days. You can rock them with athletic wear, streetwear, casual wear, and I dare say a suit (if you and your look are proportionally balanced and the vans don’t make you look awkward). The issue with this shoe is that they are so versatile that they could easily become your daily choice of footwear, at that point, they lose some of their appeals My recommendation is to make them a regular use, maximum 1-2 times per week shoe. Then again, they are your kicks so do with them what you please.
This fit is an easy win, and you can buy all of these multi-use pieces for under $200.
Final thought, you’re never fully dressed without accessories.
