I’ve been cooped up in the house for the last 4 weeks like everyone else and needed something to re-inspire me for this week’s post.
I think the photographs are as much for you as they are for me at the moment because they give me something to look forward to… OUTSIDE!!!
Real rap… we had a blast doing this shoot. Lake Tahoe, Ca in late January is perfect. The temperature is just cool enough to maintain the winter wonderland you see in the shots, but still warm enough to manage which made this shoot all play and no work.
Not so relevant back story:
Lake Tahoe is about 3 hours from SF without traffic (Between 5-8hrs with traffic), but the reality is… when is there ever not traffic in The Bay? I have an answer to this question actually…4 am! There is no traffic in the San Francisco Bay Area at 4 am,
soooo that’s when we left for Lake Tahoe. Little did I know what was in store. The route up the mountain is dark af, and the sun doesn’t rise until about 7 am in late January. So, I found myself half-sleep, driving up a mountain at 0615 in the fog. Long story short, we almost died for these shots, but these are the sacrifices you make if you wanna be great!
We went super casual for this look, which is perfect for the snow in most instances. SN: In my lifetime, I can only recall one instance where Atlanta had multiple feet of snow, and the entire city was shut down because of it #Thesouthremembers #snowpocalypse. That’s not the case in Tahoe, 8 am and everyone is moving. The roads are all plowed. Shops are opening, and the people are ready to hit the slopes. It’s literally a reprieve, much slower pace, and honestly you can get some of the best the outdoors has to offer all in one spot. Tahoe is a completely different place in the summer.
The Look:
I needed something that was form meets function (#staywarm). So, there are 2 primary ways to stay warm in the snow:
-One is layering, which is a core tenant of any good winter wardrobe.
-The other is to have a really solid winter coat.
In this instance, I chose the latter, and personally, it made life super simple. This look is pretty much snow attire, but make it fashion lol.
A few posts ago, I mentioned mixing the highs and lows… for this, I’m all mediums:
-Coat: H&M
-T-shirt: Gift Shop
-Jeans: Levi’s
-Hat: Ralph
-Shoes: “Yellow Ferrari” Jordan 14s
This is an easy dope fit to mix into your winter wardrobe. There’s a pop of color paired with much simpler pieces to balance the fit, and you can get it all done at a very reasonable price. The next time you’re planning for your “Ski Trip,” this can be added as a go-to fit!
