LThere are fewer things that bring me more joy, like genuine Splendor, than Fellowship. The grouping of people with different perspectives or shared experience, all commingled with conversation is always an occasion im down for!
Homecoming is JUST THAT!
I mean of course there is the general catchup convo:
Person A: Hey, how you been?
Person B: Can’t complain. WBU?
Person A: S*** Bout the same! Good seeing you!
Person B: Same here!
–Dap up, Slide to next convo–
To be honest even that is refreshing in the Homecoming space, because on some level you’re just glad to see familiar faces, but the true value of Homecoming is derived from those lost touch points. The People you get to see less than once per quarter who have all been given a reason to convene at the same place, at the same time, with the same purpose… TO have the best 6 hour Family reunion possible. There’s food, libations, fraternities, sororities, strolls, cars, low-key fashion shows, and so much more! What’s wild is that we did this at a PWI. “Georgia State University had some of yall Black Colleges beat this past weekend”. (this is a direct quote from a non-gsu alum tailgate attendee)
Look the last thing I want to do is argue about who’s homecoming is better (its ours lol), but i will say ACC (the GSU Alumni Connection Council) is building something special. You see GSU is a not traditional campus in the middle of the city. Historically, our college experiences were characteristically muddled with the happenings of Atlanta, but since 2009 our endowment has grown, out football team has grown, and our presence has followed. Honestly the paradigm has shifted and now… the status of GSU will have major impacts on the city of Atlanta.
I know what you’re here for!!!! (Check out my other blog posts too lol)
