I guess it makes sense to dive right in lol. Dad Vibes, as defined by Urban Dictionary, are palpable feelings that a man is a dad. It usually happens when he is around your own father’s age and is kind or has the same demeanor, such as a teacher. Also, celebrities with beards sometimes give off “dad vibes”. He just seems like a dad. I think this feeling can also be exacerbated by what you are wearing lol. This opens the discussion around co-ords for men or as some of my friends call it, “the Walking Suit”.
We all intrinsically know that fashion is cyclical; this is why the question, “what was your inspiration,” is so openly asked. We see designers take from the past, tweak to re-invent, and thus, a resurgence is born.
The same is true of two piece sets or co-ords for men.
In Spring/Summer Fashion Week 2016, major designers resurfaced matching sets, and 3 years later we are still on the wave. What’s interesting to me is how long it took for fast fashion (i.e. H&M, Zara, and the like) to truly pick up the trend and push it in a world that is filled with inspired color blocking looks (that’s a discussion for another post).
At any rate, the operative questions are why this, why now so here’s the back story. It was a characteristically sunny day in California. Birds are chirping, and there’s a slight breeze off of the bay when I decided to pack for my trip to New York. It dawned on my to check the weather as California will have you confused about life on the East coast. Lowe and behold, New York was scorching. I politely took to Amazon, where delivery is faster than Jimmy Johns, and found the lightest, fashionable fit available.
As an ode to Summer, I generally iterate, reiterate, and reiterate again that you have to be creative to beat the heat and remain stylish, but for $18, Amazon Prime will have you covered in a day or so. I paired Amazon’s finest with a few other staples:
Adidas Stan Smiths. You have to love this shoe. Here’s a quick run down on the shoe. Original release was in the 1970’s and touted as one of history’s most popular and iconic shoes. The 2019 edition boasts an extended tongue, multiple color variations, and still maintains the elegance to bring a tennis shoe into almost any setting. The cons are few, but relevant! The quality of the leather upper has diminished over time. Generally the shoe runs a tad small, and creasing is almost inevitable.
Finally the staple of of the fit… the Yankees fitted! Unquestionably, the most iconic fitted of all time, and New Yorkers will wear it with anything. (No shade, just Facts B) So I had to pull it out for this look. (As a note, you’ll see it again; I was embracing the culture. lol) At first, I was not too excited by the pairing; there’s not even a hint of blue anywhere else in the fit. In retrospect, it was a great decision. If you want to know more about the history of the logo, check out this article by Complex Magazine; it’s a solid read!
Overall, decent fit; what’s more important is that I beat the 98 degree temps in NYC, so all is right with the world!

The Wkender!
