So as we were thinking through the concept for this shoot my mind immediately went to the desert. We wanted to give west coast vibes in the middle of the city. There is almost no place better to bring this idea to life than at the Goat Farms.
The aesthetic is perfect for a rugged feel and the combination of the train with the red brick buildings in the background feel like 3:10 to Yuma or Tombstone. I love it!
For those of you who have been out west, you know that the temperature is great year round. What you will find though, is that 65 at midday does not equal a warm night. In fact most times you start and end the day needing a light jacket.
There are so many options for how to beat the elements, but this look is what i like to call Desert Casual.
Things to keep in mind as you walk into your closet for this setting. You need something that is warm enough for the morning and evening while cool enough to make it through the day. (That generally means no heavy items, sweaters and blazers included).
The Jacket I have in this shoot is unlined, meaning there is no additional material inside for insulation, which is perfect for this setting. The shirt is an oxford collar logo panel shirt (can you guess the brand lol). It’s a statement piece, but from my perspective it still feels classy. The jeans are Levi’s, per usual. I swear by the brand because I know the fit, but I’ve mentioned this before… All of my jeans are tailored.
Finally the shoes.
Slight tangent… I honestly don’t think we have a complete shoot in these shoes. The double monk strap boot is a fashion forward piece that disrupted the market in late 2016. They are everywhere now! We shot in these boots for our first shoot but literally only got one photo before the shoot was brought to an abrupt halt. (DM me and i’ll tell you the story @thewkender_).
To complete any respectable desert casual look, you have to wear boots and these are a comfortable, yet functional, choice. They sit neatly at the intersection of style and utility and if you find a pair that work for you I strongly suggest copping!
The scarf may have been a miss lol, what are your thoughts???

I don’t think the scarf was a miss at all because you had the scenery to compliment the accessory. A lot of people forget that earth’s surroundings are just as much a part of an outfit as the outfit itself. When it rains you pull out the rain-boots and trench coats. If it snows, then maybe its time to lace yourself with a heavy-duty mountain vest and dark denims. Sun’s out – Guns out!! You get my drift. Certain garments are necessary for the season. You’re only out of sync when you bring certain things into a season that were meant to be left in another one. Ponder on that.
