The Incomparable Blake Amber
<

Model (mod·el /ˈmädl/) – a person with a role either to promote, display or advertise commercial products (notably fashion clothing in fashion shows) or to serve as a visual aid for people.

Blake Thomas completely embodies the definition above and then some! She was originally born in Miami, Florida, but her family traveled extensively in her youth. So needless to say Atlanta adopted her… her family later settled in Stone Mountain which is where she was primarily raised.

Blake wears confidence, style, grace, and humor equally and can hold her own amist modeling elites. What’s interesting about this is that she has only been modeling for a few years. As a testament to her calling we could simply look at her pathway to date…

2012 – Begins modeling at Georgia State University. This is a critical step as everything that happens next is predicated upon Blake identifying and pursuing her passion.

2015 – Blake is signed to her first modeling contact. This Ladies and Gents is every model’s dream. This is essentially confirmation that the passion project/your hearts deepest desires are in sync with your destiny.

2018 – Her passion and purpose collide again as she is invited to participate in a Lifetime Original Modeling Series titled American Beauty Star. this is no small feat, here is a link to season 2, she’s in several episodes Link

Everyone in the fashion industry thinks they are unique, but confirmation from the greats are usually a good indication that you are in fact as unique as you think you are. For Blake, the evidence is as follows:

Ashley Graham, an American model who has appeared on the cover of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour, and Elle; and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is quoted as saying to Blake directly, “You’re an amazing model.” For some this instance may seem miniscule, but I can tell you first hand, it’s the small acknowledgments of greatness that will continue to propel you forward!

As if her beauty, style and grace weren’t enough, she’s genuinely a good person. I’m not certain if models typically have platforms, but Blake definitely does! One of her career goals is to create a space for in between models. For those that don’t have context, here are some insights.

The Fashion industry has very strict standards for Runway and Plus Size models. By US size standards a woman would be no greater than, 34 inches around the bust, 23 inches around the waist, and 34 inches around the hips, which is between a size 2 & 4 for runway.

On the polar opposite end of the spectrum Plus Sized models typically start at a size 12. (Granted, the hard and fast rules i was able to find documented were last updated circa 2017, and we have made strides in body positivity, but there is still work to be done).

We, as a public, have to get to a place where we can accept women of all shapes and sizes as beautiful, and Blake is going to help us get there!!! (My rant is complete lol)

Other key passion points for Blake include travel, concealing/workplace authenticity, creating a platform to share people’s stories, and mental health, noting the smaller parts of depression. To make it plain, Blake is a model, activist, visionary and in her truest form she dreams to be Anthony Bourdain incarnate!

The Look is simple spring/summer chic! Rompers are always a great addition to a woman’s closet. This particular style incorporates a striped pattern and arm loops to add a layer of complexity. She paired with a nude minimalist block heel and a Yellow tote bag for a splash of color. We are heading to warmer weather ladies, adding a look like this is a recipe for success!

Thank you for the opportunity to feature you as our WkendHER, you are truly amazing and we look forward to seeing you continue to flourish!

  1. I have known Blake since she was in high school. She cheered with my daughter. She is a gorgeous individual inside and out. She truly represents the average American woman who is neither as thin as a runway model nor considered a plus size. We need more models like Blake, so our young girls and us older women can feel good about our bodies. Great article!
