Do You Feel My Pane(s)?
<

The plan for this post is education, so if you’re not in a learning mood, grab a friend who is and have them give you the cliff notes to the cliff notes lol.

Before diving in completely I want to thank the good people at K&G Fashion Superstores as all of items depicted in the photos that follow are products from there Ellsworth Industrial store in Atlanta Ga.

Now to the lesson!

The Window Pane suit, is a nightmare for those that don’t want to play the long game in fashion. I say that because as dapper as you may seem in the suit today, this pattern is one that routinely goes in and out of style. To add an additional layer of complexity to this calculus,

the more pronounced the window pane, the wider you can end up looking in the fit. Trust me, I know!

Even with these detractors in mind, you still shouldn’t be deterred from  from exploring the possibilities of this look if you’re a true fashion connaisseur….

Standard issue:

So I think we can all agree that there is nothing standard about this suit, but there are a few standard pieces that people generally think of with suits, shirts, ties/tie clips, etc. This suit is one of the deepest of blues with really prominent white window panes. So i figured it would be ideal to let the stripes do the work. Generally, I pair loud with subtle, which in this case meant a solid tie. The french collared shirt carries a simple plaid pattern which from a distance isn’t noticeable, but up close works in a complementary way as opposed to clashing. Love the simplicity of this pairing and I assure you that whatever statement you were looking to make was in fact made!

Dress It down:

Dressing this outfit down is super simple, but I think it’s worth nothing as a true business casual look is more comfortable for many people. Simply remove the tie/tie clip, change to loafers, and voila you have business casual. One note, I would pair with a solid shirt for business casual in this particular suit, largely because the suit itself is busy and needs the stability of a solid (White, yellow, or gray possibly).

Super Casual:

This is where things start to get exciting. Super casual suit looks are disruptive. What was once considered a complete faux pas is now all the rage! So for a more fun fast casual look you could pair this suit with a quality white t-shirt and a quality sneaker like a common projects achilles low. Voila, you have a simple chic look to carry you through the day. If your day calls for cooler temperatures a grey or white hoodie could be an easy additional layer beat the weather. Either option is fun and lets the world know that you’re daring and very fashionable.

Separate:

Last but certainly not least, the separate. Today’s fashion has opted for pattern or printed trousers/pants in conjunction with traditionally casual accents. For instance you may see a window pane slack paired with tennis shoes a printed t-shirt and denim jacket. I must admit that this is a total vibe from my perspective, but some will be opposed (shrugs). I haven’t seen much of the alternate pairing as of late. Specifically the suit jacket with jeans… this may be because the dads of yesteryear have exhausted the look, regardless it’s definitely still functional. I would probably go white denim, gray shirt, blue shoes. I say that because dark denim could be perceived as trying to match and you would inevitably fail. The deep indigo of this suit will make the match difficult if not impossible and also, where’s the fun in that look lol.

Now that we have gone through the possibilities, tell me which one you’d like to see…

To a Life Worth Living,
