There are so few statements that hold true in life that when you encounter one you must acknowledge it. There are too few women in Tech; there are even fewer Black women in Tech. BUT…. I met the anomaly, and she let me know that there is an uptick, which will forever change the face of technology. What’s most important is that she is this month’s WkendHer. With that, I present to you the incomparable Ms. Joy Collier.

Joy is an IT professional, with a focus in system engineering. She holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration in Computer Information Systems from Georgia State University, and numerous certifications associated with Linux Administration, Mac Software, and Google management. To translate, she’s ill with the backend… what tech support (lol).

She’s driven, ambitious, and simply doesn’t take no for an answer. She constantly works to get more Black women interested in technology by frequenting conferences that focus on underrepresented populations in the technology industry.

Her foundations are rooted in the church which offered her

first foray with technology and service simultaneously. ‘Til this day she still spends much of her spare time helping out at her father’s church, New Harvester International Ministries located in Suwanee, GA, as the head Sound Technician. Aside from her love for technology, Joy indulges in fashion, hair, and makeup.

I’ll have you know that I had her write the previous sentence, and she was completely speaking out of modesty. JOY IS A FASHION ICON!

She seamlessly couples modern chic looks with classic elements, and this shoot is evidence of that.

Let’s talk Fashion! Here is a quick rundown of the outfit details:

Jeans: Topshop (Similar Item)

Shirt: FashionNova

Shoes: Aldo (Similar Item)

Purse: Celine

Hat: Lavish Blanc

Leather Jacket: Zara (Similar Item)

Trench Coat: Zara

Nails: Emience Nails

Makeup: @killjoyx_x

Hair: @HairByDanni

Rings: Aldo

What’s dope about this look is that she has mixed fast fashion from all tiers with ultra-high-end for a look to kill. To go a step further, she’s varied the look to meet different tastes while maintaining the same base.

The rotational pieces are primarily the Hat, the Overcoat, the Moto Jacket, and the Handbag. For those of you who are averse to cooler temperatures, the hat and overcoat are a dope combination. If you could care less how cold it is ‘cause “fashion is life”, then the moto jacket is the way to go. No matter the instance, as long as coat check is available, the coatless option is best for indoors and you’re sure to turn heads.

It is important to note that the oversized shirt is the centerpiece. She muted the rest of the outfit with black as a neutral to create a balance in an outfit that is bold but classy. You have to love the addition of the booties, it’s a casual slay, like “Hi, my style hurts your feelings, and I didn’t try”.

Ladies and Gentleman, JOY!!!!

To a Life Worth Living,

The Wkender!
