For the Love of the Game
<

I can honestly keep this brief because if you see the shirt, you know the deal!

When I think passion and purity in association with the game of basketball, with the game that was so critical to my formative years, the reality is The Black Mamba immediately comes to the forefront.

What’s most interesting aren’t his accomplishments, but we have to talk about them…

9× NBA All-Defensive First Team

3× NBA All-Defensive Second Team

2× NBA scoring champion

The why/how is what I keep near and dear to my heart. When the day comes to teach my son about dedicating himself to a craft, I may just start with this book.

You see, for those of you who haven’t read Mamba Mentality, it’s Kobe Bryant’s perspective of his life and career on the basketball court and his exceptional, insightful style of playing the game.

He exposes how he critically breaks down every component of the game and how critical he is on himself to support his growth. He expects excellence and intentionally pushed buttons to drive people to their best. What’s most intriguing is how unabashedly inquisitive he was. Like you see excellence and execution when he’s on the floor, but he got there by freely asking everything he wanted to know for whomever he saw fit!

So many life lessons to garner from a single person and his commitment to his craft. I could go on, and tbh, I feel like I’ve said so little, but just know when we lost him, we lost more than a basketball phenom. We lost a role model, and an archetype to guide our personal development after. This isn’t to suggest that he was perfect; no one is, but we could and should all strive to find our path and dedicate ourselves to greatness in it!
