Steve Jobs Meets Daquan
<

Real-life question: what do Robert DeNiro, Al Green, Robert Redford, Mohammed Ali, and Steve Jobs all have in common? They all can rock the hell out of a turtle neck.

TBH turtlenecks were the bain of my existence as a child, but maturity is a thing. Here’s what I think at this point: they are awesome!

They are super difficult to mess up, but if you set your heart to it, you can and here’s how:

Turtlenecks do not go with cardigans, 1980 happened, leave it there!

There is no good reason for your turtleneck not to have sleeves. Yes they make them; please spare yourself the harsh realities that come with purchasing one.

Finally, if you can see anything within an inch of your collarbone, throw it away; it’s now the equivalent of a slouch sock for your neck.

(Please let me know of any other immediate turtleneck don’ts.)

Other than those instances, it’s generally always a win. If you’re new to turtleneck culture, you may be apprehensive and want to ease in, which is totally understandable. General rules around colors apply. Lighter colors are going to provide more evidence of your imperfections. Darker colors are better at masking. I generally start with a white and a black. They’re staple pieces and will be immensely helpful while learning to construct turtle necks looks.

For this look, I went all black everything. IMO gold always creates a stunning contrast on a black background. The two colors run through my veins (thanks Zeta Mu)! Also at this point, you know that I’m an economical fashionisto. The mules are a conversation starter. People generally don’t expect a man of my size and stature to be able to rock them appropriately, DID! Personal opinion, you can dress them up or down. Don’t you dare try to make it an either-or thing. Dress casual is a space, and it’s seated neatly in the middle lol. As a note, these mules are from Saks Off 5th and only cost $100. They take a sec to break-in but are comfortable after 1-2 wears. They come in 3 primary colors, Blue, Cognac, and Black. They’re an excellent alternative to the $700-$800 Gucci version.

All the jeans pictured are Levis, which are my go-to jean. (I know them, they know me – all is right with the world)

Overall, this look is very “Steve Jobs meets Daquan” and I love it! If your vibe is ‘a little work, a little play,’ this totally fits the mold!

Lemme know what you think!

The Wkender!
