Its rare for me but imma be serious for 2 seconds…. Yesterday Sept 23rd was the first day of fall in 2019 and some of you have not even in the slightest considered that all you have to wear are fashionova unitards (wrestling suits) or printed Dad shirts from this past summer (aka two days ago). Yeah you can pull out some of the quality goods from yesteryear, but thats not the point im making. Its time to turn over your closet, for those of you who do that and while you’re in the process of doing that its worth thinking about some of the fashion and personal whys for Fall’s popularity. Who knows… maybe itll be inspiration for you to grab some of those staple pieces that you missed last year.
A season to Fall for:
1. The natural aesthetic completely shifts: leaves change colors, cooler temps often mean greyer skies and all of this creates the perfect template for a dynamic iphone photoshoot lol
2. (Warning, what im about to say is a tinge boujee) Temps drop and as a result its pumpkin spiced latte season, but more importantly… its photos with pumpkin spiced latte season lol
3. LAYERS!!! Fall is the perfect time to start to test your creativity. It means the reintroduction of chambrays, leathers (more than shoes), wools, and for some scarves come back out.
4. The color palette for wardrobes: we move away from the pastels and whites that carried over from spring as well as the brighter hues that are grossly characteristic of summer. What remains are DEEPER, RICHER, BOLD fall colors — Burgundy, Olive Green, Burnt Orange, Very Dark Purple (google it, its actually a color lol). Whats dope about these colors is that they look good on almost anyone!
5. Football is back: for those of you who know me personally you know that im more of a basketball fan than a football fan, but football season presents an opportunity for me to stay on the grill so its all good. As an aside, football season and football jerseys are kinda inseparable and a jersey with your favorite player or team is an easy win for an outfit! (don’t put your jersey over a shirt and tie please, this is not draft day, who’s father are you?) also HOMECOMING!!!
6. I know mentioned textiles in a previous bullet but VELVET: It not only deserves its own bullet but it requires it… You see velvet anything is a conversation piece. In my circles the conversation generally starts with the iconic “What is that…Velvet?” (Coming to America) question followed by a hysterical laugh.
7. Holidays: soooo who doesn’t love Halloween and Thanksgiving? They are generally low maintenance holidays. Halloween, you literally get to be whoever you want and three weeks later you get to wear sweatpants and eat until your heart is content for an entire day.
This look is an homage to fall, leather, camo, olive, wool. All of the essentials are grazed at a minimum, as for embodying our moniquer; “Work 9-5, Live 5-9”, this look is great from the dress casual workplace well into the night. Its dressy, but says you dare to liven up something (a suit) that could have easily been boring.
