What Rules?
<

Fashion novices confine themselves to the predetermined boxes that have been in place for decades. Stylish people are able to keep up with trends (or set their own). The mark of a Fashionista is breaking rules and doing it so well that it becomes acceptable. One of those coveted rules is No White After Labor Day!

With all this in mind, I present our WkendHER, Ms. India Bridgeforth. Akron born but Atlanta raised, Ms. Bridgeforth is a multi-dimensional creative with passions for music, art, science, and fashion.

She’s a graduate of Georgia State University, where she acquired her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Now, she is pursuing her Masters in Business Administration at Louisiana State University, while juggling motherhood, a budding music career, a start-up, and a 9-5 in project management.

In all of this, she still finds time to be an active mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Atlanta and be engaged socially and politically. Some of India‘s interests include playing piano and guitar, fashion blogging, eating sushi, learning new things, and spending time with her family and friends.

Needless to say, she is a rockstar, and what a privilege it is to be in the presence of greatness. You’ve gotta love when anyone pushes limits to reshape a narrative. India is a shining example of all of the things you can do.

You can:

Be Woman

Be Black

Be Bold

Be Beautiful

Be a Mother

Be a professional

Be an elite Scholar

Be an Artist

And we salute her because she IS Exceptional!

The Questions:

What inspired you to pursue music?

It was innate, but factors that influenced me was the idea of being able to connect with people through something I created.

I remember us talking about the true distinction between old school and new school; who is your favorite old school artist, and who inspires you today?

Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson are my favorite old school artists, and I’m inspired by new age artists such as Frank Ocean, Lauryn Hill, & Aaliyah.

That’s musically, but what about fashion?

Hillary Banks, Fran. Many of the 90s urban and preppy fashion genre, and I marry the two.

If you could meet anyone that could push you personally or professionally to the next level who would that be, and why?

Beyoncé, duh. Because she actually invests in and is dedicated to her craft and doesn’t accept no for an answer all while maintaining a level of mystique and poise. Another person is Monique Rodriguez, CEO Mielle Organics, because she is a professional turned CEO, and she is so grounded and keeps her family all together despite how demanding running a business is.

India, It was an absolute pleasure featuring you. Thank you for being a rockstar and doing us the honor of being our WkendHER!

To A Life Worth Living,

The Wkender
