I think its only right as we close out the month of June and prepare for July that we put a flag somewhere in a photo.
‘Merica!
Now that we have paid our dues, let’s talk about this heat… If you don’t know by now I’m from a place where it gets so hot you could literally fry and egg on the side walk for at least a handful of days each year. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the old school playas were onto something with the linen 2pc sets lol.
Light, breathable, and in some circumstances… dare i say stylish. I haven’t quite reached the gentlemanly age where it would be appropriate for me to go with a shirt and pant set… Sooo a suit will have to do (shrug).
ThisJoseph Abboud suit boasts some of the core characteristics that make linen so uniquely elegant and functional at the same time. I once had a woman tell me that there aren’t many men that can pull of a brown suit.. To her I’ve gotta say, I disagree. This seemingly multi-tonal brown creates a blended color that suits all complexions and when paired simply provides an elegant neutrality to your look that says, “I know im stuntin on ya, but i really wasnt trying?” What’s dope is that the suit is lined in a silk-like fabric that further promotes breathability.
Now to the hard part… Tailoring! We recognize that with every post and every word to a page you are taking in visual and written queues about what style means to us here at The Wkender. I need you to put all of that out of your head for a moment….
LINEN IS DIFFERENT!
To this point we have discussed touch feel and breathability of fabric, but we have not focused on natural stretch to a fabric. This is coming up now, so we have to cover it. On a scale of 1 to elastigirl (yes I’m a child). Linen scores a 0! Here’s what I found:
Pure linen fibers don’t stretch, and they are resistant to abrasion. … Constant creasing and pressing linen in the same area in a sharp fold can cause the fibers to deteriorate. This is why linen wrinkles so easily, and why the collars and hems of linen items can eventually begin to show wear and even break over time.
All this for a simple recommendation: If you’re choosing linen, which is probably a great decision as summer is kicking off, get it tailored; but leave a little extra room. I promise you’ll thank me later!
