So idk if yall know this but I’m a basketball fan. I love the game, the pace, the strategy, and the sheer athleticism required to be elite in it! I think there are many who can relate to the story of growing up wanting to be an athlete or a music artist which is the impetus for this post.
How befitting that we talk about this now as we are in the midst of the NCAA Tournaments Final Four.
First the lesson:
If you look at the teams that remain in this year’s final four; Virginia (1), Texas Tech (3), Auburn (5), and Michigan State (2) I have to say that these are not who I expected. I wouldn’t even consider myself a novice analyst, but I thought Duke was going to be of the last few standing (these are just a few of my thoughts, no need to start an entire basketball debate lol).
So here is the real, some of these young men will never play ball on this of a bigger stage again in their lives. With that comes a few realizations that will characterize the rest of their lives, either ball is life and I’m gonna try to survive off of hoop dreams or its time to find another passion. My question is how are we preparing athletes, and really our youth in general, for the inevitable next phases of their lives?
The 44th President of the United States of America said it best: “They might think they’ve got a pretty jump shot or a pretty good flow,” Mr. Obama said, “but our kids can’t all aspire to be LeBron or Lil Wayne. I want them aspiring to be scientists and engineers, doctors and teachers, not just ballers and rappers. I want them aspiring to be a Supreme Court Justice. I want them aspiring to be President of the United States of America.”
Now that the ramblings of a late night blogger have ended…
So many professional sports players have decided to turn the tunnel to the locker rooms into a runway. Honestly, we should really start doing pregame photo shoots and fashion shows. The NBA Runway tunnels are graced by the likes of Russell Westbrook, Lebron James, Boogie Cousins, Dwyane Wade, PJ Tucker, and James Harden to name a few. Whats dope is that you get the full spectrum of looks from function to fitted.
For this look I decided to go with a cross over (you see what i did there) that merges function, comfort, and fashion. Suits and tennis shoes are and have been in! So why not mix it into a casual early spring vibe. Heavier Linen suit to beat the early spring breeze paired with a thinner hoodie is where form meets function every time. I get big city mid march vibes all the way. To take it a step further out of the box i paired the suit hoodie combo with the Nike React Element 87 Orewoods which are as dope as they are light.
If you’re looking for a fun way to dress down all those stuffy suits in your closet, this is definitely an options. If the climate is a bit warmer, you could even switch the hoodie for a t-shirt and now youre back in the game. Either way, you’re classy and casual at the same time!
