Recycling is good for your wardrobe!
<

Two points to make and then ill be done:

  1. You don’t have to buy new clothes every time you leave the house. (This is a message more for me than you, but maybe you need it too)

  2. When you mix pieces sometimes it works well, don’t let PEOPLE convince you not to be creative with your wardrobe.

So if all you needed was a synopsis of the post you can stop right here. The points have been made and the pictures support them. For all of you troopers looking for the details here we go!

Cycling Your Wardrobe

Over the past 7 months you have seen a variety of looks from The Wkender and, with the exception of jeans, there has been very limited recycling of pieces. I recognize that in some ways this suggests that I have a limitless wardrobe and my closet door is like the gateway to narnia. This simply means that your perception has been managed, but now comes time to manage expectations.

I have been fortunate that y’all have been rocking with me for long enough that the weather has gone from Ice ICE Baby to Mojave heat. We are nearing the end of peak heat season, which means for some people it’s time to focus purchases on items for cooler weather.

How do you spend money on clothes for fall and still navigate this heat stylishly…You CYCLE (not with a bike but with your wardrobe).

There is a strategy to this concept with the two core tenants being:

  • Know your audience

  • Understand usage rates

Knowing your audience is key because in our digital world you are constantly being captured, photos, videos, etc. By no stretch am I suggesting that you have to stress about someone seeing you in a shirt that you like. However, it is worthwhile for you to try a different pair of jeans with that top. People pay much less attention than you’d think to what you wear, when its not posted on social media and they don’t have a reference point. New pants, same shirt, new outfit!

Usage rates…Simply put, I know that you have a favorite piece in your wardrobe. Put it down. Give it a rest. Find a new favorite piece. If you wear the same piece 2-3 times in a 2wk period, assuming you have have more shirts, there may be another option available. Personally, i don’t feel that this applies as much to standard pieces (e.g. white t-shirt, black t-shirt), but you still need to keep an awareness.

Issa New Fit

Pairing of pieces is a calculation. You have to consider cut, look, feel, color, print and after all of this, how recently have I worn this. I pulled the bold black and white striped shirt from the Yo My Man Lemme Get A Size 13  post and the  black suit shorts (shorts were custom tailored for me) from

Don’t Believe Me Just Watch post for an entirely new feel. Yes these are re-puposed pieces, but they mesh well together. These two pieces with the Birkies and the bandana create a very Pac meets Banana Republic vibe. Leave a comment, let me know what you think.

And for the Finale…. the shoulder bags! Built like gun holsters, these shoulder bags are a dope alternative to the standard fanny pack. They are designed with all sizes in mind, and frankly if I can fit’em, I know you can. They’re the accessory to trump all streetwear accessories and to push matters further, they’re reasonably priced. Check out these hand-made exclusive pieces by 3rdDegree Urban.

Repurposing your pieces is necessary as even the celebrities have staples in their wardrobes and no one has a never-ending closet. The key is being conscious of how and when you repurpose. As seasons change, consider giving old pieces new flare by layering.
