Fashion Without Borders

When warmer weather arrives my life becomes exponentially simpler from a fashion perspective. Layering is less of a focus and the essentials become key. Sometimes all you have to do is grab a white shirt some blue jeans and season it with international inspiration.

Let me take you on a journey:

So I’m in Japan, and I see people wearing fanny packs across the shoulder, but they were all worn with streetwear. (They were almost exclusively Supreme Fanny Packs.) **light bulb** What if I found a Fanny Pack that was less casual and wore it in a pseudo-dressy way… Done

Second thought, how can I push this envelope? Although I found the fanny pack in Asia, I was totally getting a Euro vibe, literally “Black Boy takes Paris” so I needed to find a beret asap.

For the icing on the cake, how could I not pull out the proverbial ‘Jordan’s of the sandal world’. I grew up only knowing Birkenstocks as potatoes shoes, but they also make a toe out version that is quite comfortable. (Just make sure you get a pedicure before you put them on)

This fit is the product of excessive travel; it’s what happens when you hit Europe and Asia at some point you start to bring it all home. What’s wonderful about it is that its super chill and if you’re anywhere near a paint brush you’ll fit right in. I could totally see this as a day in the park with your significant other and your dog, but in this instance, we found a remote location near Krog Street Market.

What’s a day out with The Wkender without some type of shenanigan, so here’s your life lesson for the day: READING IS FUNDAMENTAL.

When the world is your canvas there are no limits to your creativity, unless there is a “No Trespassing” sign -the bane of my existence. This is a harsh reality that I have faced in many photo shoots. Additionally, I’m a bit testy, so if I don’t “see it”, im proceed-in (shrugs). We stumbled into this parking lot with a beautiful piece on the wall. I had to get the picture! What we thought would be 1 or 2 shots turned into 20. As we were closing out the last couple of shots the owner comes out and is seemingly livid.

Don and I have become extremely skilled at apologizing profusely, and the owner calmed down after a second and asked specifically what we were doing. I told him about the blog and he invited us into the building. What we found is that we had stumbled across a studio that had been used by a full range of celebrity elite (e.g. Migos, Ludacris, Travis Scott, Big Boy). Then the owner gave us his card with his direct line and told us to reach out if we ever wanted to talk about using the space. This was literally the best getting kicked out experience I had ever had.

Needless to say, I’ll be reaching out soon!

To a Life Worth Living,

The Wkender.
