From an ideological perspective, I have always believed that you should dress for yourself. In Merlot For the Culture, I mentioned that your confidence will dictate people’s response to your look. I recently had a conversation with a gentleman more senior than myself, an Old Head if you will, and his complaint was simple: “Y’all young boys don’t know how to dress anymore. Whatever happened to the days of dressing to match your women?”

This intrigued me a bit because the concept is dated. Generally, we have moved to a state of complementing our counterparts in dress as opposed to matching. I wanted to explore the idea, and try to bridge the gap…

For The February Female Feature, I present Miss Victoria Range (IG: @Victoria.Range)!

About her:

Victoria is an accountant by trade, but she is equally invested in her faith, fashion, music, and all things Atlanta Nightlife. She’s a socialite and is poised to be an influencer in the city. She is an honorary Atlantan (by way of California) and to let the cat out of the bag, website Coming Soon!

Her Look:

Every woman has that dress in her closet that’s meant to “SET IT OFF”! When I called her about collaborating, I told her to bring the black one Lol.

This look is great for a night out. The dress is attention-grabbing but is equally elegant. Her pairings are simple: a watch, a ring, diamond earrings, and black minimalist heels. From the perspective of versatility, the legs are exposed to the waist, but this can be overcome with a safety pin or a high-quality pair of leggings underneath (you may look like a knock-off Kitana from Mortal Kombat with the leggings though).

My Look:

An olive green suit is always a go! I stuck with 2 colors, black and green. When you don’t know what she’s gonna wear and you are trying to compliment… Keep It SIMPLE. Slight tweaks to standard operating procedures give a look more character. Next time you have on a button down, try buttoning the top button and not wearing a tie, it adds polish! Also, I’m not a fan of socks and loafers, but I’m also not a fan of being ashy. Sooo.. no socks = lotion on ankles. Finally, be conscious of your jewelry and the associated aesthetic. The Lion Ring and Nixon Watch are huge, but they don’t feel gaudy because of my size.

The way this collaboration turned out, I think my old head would be proud. Gone are the days of setting out to specifically match your girl, but if you wanna stay in the ballpark this is an option to achieve that goal.

To a Life Worth Living,

The Wkender.
